Pharmacological action of Chinese Skullcap Herb

Antibacterial effect: baicalin Decoction with 100% concentration and plate test has inhibitory effect on dysentery bacillus, typhoid bacillus, paratyphoid bacillus, Vibrio cholerae, Escherichia coli, proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus, hemolytic streptococcus (a, b), Diplococcus pneumoniae, diphtheria, etc. In the test tube test of Huangqin decoction, 1:1280 concentration can inhibit typhoid bacillus and Hemolytic Streptococcus A, 1:640 concentration can inhibit hemolytic streptococcus B, Diplococcus pneumoniae, Shigella flexneri and human Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37, and 1:320 concentration can inhibit Vibrio cholerae and Shigella dysentery; 1: At the concentration of 80, Shigella sonnei had inhibitory effect. Baicalin alcohol extract 0.5g/ml or 0. 05g / ml, cultured with agar inclined plane, and mixed with culture medium 1:1, it has inhibitory effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The alcohol extract of Chinese Skullcap Herb Georgi has an inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli, citribacillus and Staphylococcus aureus at the concentration of 2G / ml. Chinese Skullcap Herb Decoction and alcohol extract 1g / ml had inhibitory effect on meningococci when tested by plate method.

Antifungal effect: Radix Scutellariae decoction was tested by test tube slope method. 4% concentration inhibited odontococcus canis and Trichophyton versicolor, 8% concentration inhibited tinea schrenckii, 10% concentration inhibited tinea schrenckii Mongolian variant, and 15% concentration inhibited sympathic Trichophyton and Trichophyton rust. Chinese Skullcap Herb aqueous extract at the concentration of 1:3 has different inhibitory effects on Trichophyton violaceus, Trichophyton concentric, Trichophyton schrenckii, Trichophyton audouang, Trichophyton wool, Trichophyton rubrum, K, W, Trichophyton epidermidis, and Nocardia astrosus in test tubes.  

Antiviral effect: Huangqin decoction has an inhibitory effect on hepatitis B virus DNA replication in vitro at a concentration of 25-100%.  

Anti inflammatory and anti allergic reaction: gavage of baicalein, baicalin and wogonin at 200500mg / kg and 50100mg / kg by gavage of 70% ethanol extract of Chinese Skullcap Herb can inhibit the increase of abdominal exudation in mice caused by acetic acid, and also inhibit the foot swelling in rats caused by 48 / 80 (a compound name, Sigma production). Gavage of baicalein, baicalein Baicalin and wogonin 100mg / kg by gavage could inhibit adjuvant arthritis in rats. The 100200mg / kg aqueous extract of Chinese Skullcap Herb Georgi could inhibit the passive skin allergic reaction (PCA) in rats, but had no significant effect on the contact dermatitis (ear swelling) in mice caused by chloropicrin.

Effect on central nervous system: intraperitoneal injection of Huangqin Decoction 4G / kg can prolong the positive reflex of defensive conditioned reflex in mice, but has no effect on non conditioned reflex and differentiation, indicating that Huangqin can strengthen the process of cortical inhibition. Huangqin Decoction 2G / kg has antipyretic effect on rabbits caused by typhoid mixed vaccine. However, it has also been reported that Chinese Skullcap Herb decoction or liquor extract 5-9g / animal by gavage or 2G / animal IM can not prove that Chinese Skullcap Herb has antipyretic effect on rabbits caused by typhoid vaccine.

Cardiovascular effect: intravenous injection of 1G / kg alcohol extract of Chinese Skullcap Herb can reduce the blood pressure of anesthetized dogs. Scutellaria Decoction 0. 06g / kg intravenous injection has obvious antihypertensive effect on anesthetized dogs. Baicalein 20mg / kg intravenously can reduce the blood pressure of anesthetized dogs by 40-50%. After gavage of baicalin extract / kg, 3 times / day for 4 weeks, the blood pressure and heart rate of dogs with chronic renal hypertension decreased. Baicalin 2 × 10 (- 4) mol / L, in isolated aortic strips, pulmonary artery strips, tracheal strips and right atrium of guinea pigs, it can competitively antagonize the contraction caused by adrenaline, noradrenaline and dopamine, and also antagonize the relaxation of trachea and increase the spontaneous frequency of right atrium by isoproterenol, suggesting that baicalin can block the receptors of a, B1 and B2.  

Antiplatelet aggregation and anticoagulation: baicalein, wogonin, Melaleuca a, baicalein Ⅱ and chrysin at concentration 1. At 0 mm, it can inhibit collagen induced platelet aggregation in rats, chrysin can also inhibit ADP induced platelet aggregation, baicalein and wogonin can also inhibit arachidonic acid induced platelet aggregation, baicalein and baicalin can also inhibit thrombin induced transformation of fibrinogen into fibrin; Baicalein and Baicalin 20,50mg / kg by gavage can prevent the decrease of platelet and fibrinogen content in rats with endotoxin induced disseminated intravascular coagulation.
