What is Dianzicao?

Yunnan Comfrey is mainly produced in Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou. Its root can be used for medicine and has a very long history. The root of Dian comfrey is cylindrical, generally not too straight and distorted, and it is easier to break. The cross-section of the roots is yellowish-white, and the flowers are blue-purple, but later turn dark red, between 12 and 14 mm in length. The flowering and fruiting periods are from June to September.

1. Contraceptive effect

Comfrey root (Nissan) ethanol extract 100 mg/100 g and 30% comfrey root powder mixed with feeding animals can inhibit the estrus period of rats, but the pigment proposed in the root is invalid. The 50% syrup of comfrey from Yunnan can be given to mice orally for 1 month, which can significantly inhibit the estrus, and can be recovered after 2 months of drug withdrawal; and can inhibit the fertility rate of mice. Oral administration of comfrey for two months in a row in normal mice, the ovary was significantly reduced, the uterus and pituitary were slightly reduced, but the weight of other endocrine glands such as thyroid and adrenal glands was not significantly affected.

When the oil was used in ovariectomized mice, the vaginal smear did not show keratinocytes, and the weight of the uterus did not increase, indicating that there was no estrogen-like effect. The extract of comfrey leaves can inhibit the secretion of thyroid-stimulating hormone and gonadotropin from the anterior pituitary gland, which does not interfere with the synthesis of hormones, but affects their release. Newly Tibetan false comfrey, Guangxi comfrey, and comfrey root (varies are not specified) orally reduce the fertility of mice, and have obvious anti-pituitary gonadotropin and anti-villous gonadotropin effects, while shikonone is obviously ineffective .

The 50% alcohol leaching of comfrey on the roadside produced abroad can reduce the fertility rate of mice and prolong the estrus period of normal mice. For example, re-injection of estrone or gonadotropin can still cause estrus; for immature mice Male or female mice can cause weight loss of sexual organs, thymus, and pituitary gland, and delayed growth and development. Most of the active ingredients are in flowers, seeds, leaves, and roots. Its principle of action is to inhibit the formation of pituitary gonadotropins, especially luteinizing hormone, or it may directly inactivate the above hormones, that is, the so-called "killing energy" effect.

2. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory

Comfrey has inhibitory effect on Jingke 68-1 virus in test tube, and can also inhibit Staphylococcus aureus and Lingobacter. The tincture of comfrey from the former Soviet Union has inhibitory effect on pyogenic bacteria and Escherichia coli. And can accelerate epithelial growth and treat burns.

Oral or topical application of ether or water extract of comfrey root produced in Japan can inhibit capillary permeability (rat intradermal pigment exudation method); oral orally 100 ml/kg of extract of comfrey can inhibit carrageenan-induced hindlimb edema in rats It has the same inhibitory effect as butazone, and shikonone and acetylshikonone have the same anti-inflammatory effect, and topical application can promote wound healing. The purple cloud paste made from comfrey root and angelica has better effect than single herb. Comfrey decoction has a certain curative effect on tuberculosis in mice. But it doesn't work on guinea pigs. A variety of fungi can be inhibited by the plate method. Comfrey ointment can be used for facial ringworm.

3. Circulatory system

Xinjiang soft comfrey decoction has obvious stimulating effect on the isolated or whole hearts of healthy rabbits and toads, which is related to the calcium content in the decoction. Intravenous or intramuscular injection of this decoction under general anesthesia can make nearly half of the animals (rabbits, dogs, cats) drop blood pressure sharply, and even die, but there is no such serious reaction in those without anesthesia or oral administration. It had no effect on the perfusion of toad visceral blood vessels, hind limbs of rabbits and isolated rabbit ears.

4. Anti-tumor effect

According to reports, comfrey root has a certain curative effect on choriocarcinoma and malignant mole. First screened by methylene blue test tube method, comfrey root has a very mild inhibitory effect on acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Comfrey reduces the incidence of (rat) spontaneous breast cancer.

5. Other functions

Xinjiang Ruanshicao decoction has a mild antipyretic effect on rabbits, and has an unstable excitatory effect on isolated uterus and small intestinal smooth muscle of rabbits. Oral decoction can strengthen the tension and contraction of small intestine, but intravenous injection has no such reaction. Comfrey leaf extract can reduce blood sugar in rabbits, increase intestinal tension in guinea pigs, and has no diuretic effect on rats.

Lithospermi radix matters needing attention

When choosing Yunnan comfrey, it is best to choose some thick and sturdy ones with thicker skin, purple color, and hard texture with a smaller wooden heart. When storing, keep it in a dry place.

Dian comfrey is better when used in combination with some, such as forsythia, honeysuckle, and rhubarb. Or Angelica, Angelica, Dandelion and Coptis are often taken together.

When using Yunnan comfrey, it should be noted that its medicinal properties are cold and slippery, so some friends with loose stools or spleen deficiency should not use it.
