Properties of Chinese medicine rhubarb

This product is cylindrical, conical, oval or irregular block, 3-17cm long and 3-10cm in diameter. The surface of the outer skin is yellowish-brown to reddish-brown, and some can be seen with off-white reticulate texture and scattered star points (abnormal vascular bundles), and the remaining outer skin is brown, with many rope holes and coarse wrinkles. The quality is firm, some centers are slightly soft, the section is light reddish-brown or yellowish-brown, and granular; the pith of the rhizome is broad, with a star point ring or scattered; the root xylem is developed, with radial texture, the cambium ring is obvious, no star point . The gas is fragrant, the taste is bitter and slightly astringent, and the chewing sticks to the teeth, with a sandy feeling.

  Application of rhubarb Chinese medicine

1. Accumulation of constipation

This product has a strong laxative effect, can cleanse the stomach and refresh the old, and is an essential medicine for the treatment of stagnant constipation. Because of its bitter cold settlement, it is good at releasing heat, so it is especially suitable for constipation due to heat. It is often used in combination with Glauber's salt, Magnolia officinalis and Citrus aurantium to enhance the power of purging and attacking accumulation. It is used as an emergency medicine. It is proved by treating Yangming Fu, such as Dachengqi Decoction ("Treatise on Febrile Diseases"); if the dosage of rhubarb is lighter When used with hemp seed, almond, honey and other laxatives, the laxative power is relieved, and the formula is like Maziren Pill ("Treatise on Febrile Diseases"). If the internal heat is stagnant and the righteousness is deficient, it should be combined with the tonic medicine to attack and tonic, and take care of the specimen. 2. Blood heat, vomiting, red eyes, swollen throat

Modern clinical use of rhubarb powder alone in the treatment of upper gastrointestinal bleeding has a good effect. 3. heat sores, burns

This product can be used both internally and externally. Oral administration can clear away heat and detoxify, and use its laxative effect to relieve heat toxin. It is often used with honeysuckle, dandelion, and forsythia to treat heat-toxic carbuncle, swollen and boils; for intestinal carbuncle and abdominal pain, it can be used with peony bark, peach kernel, and mirabilite, such as Dahuang Mudan Decoction ("The Synopsis of the Golden Chamber"). External use of this product can purify fire and detoxify, cool blood and reduce swelling, and treat heat toxin carbuncle swollen boils. ; For the treatment of aphthous erosions, it is often used in equal parts with dry alum to rub the affected area at the end ("Taiping Shenghui Fang"). For example, in the treatment of dysentery caused by the accumulation of damp-heat in the intestinal tract, rhubarb alone can be effective ("Su Wen Pathogenesis Qi Yi Baoming Ji"), or it can be used with Coptis chinensis, Scutellaria baicalensis, and white peony root. Gardenia, such as Yin Chenhao Decoction ("Treatise on Febrile Diseases"); for the treatment of damp-heat stranguria syndrome, it is often combined with Mutong, Plantain, Gardenia, etc., such as Bazheng Powder ("Heji Jufang").

In addition, rhubarb can "break the phlegm", clear the internal organs, reduce dampness and turbidity, and is used for old phlegm congestion, dyspnea, inability to lie on the back, madness, epilepsy, and constipation, such as Zongshi Rolling Phlegm Pills ("On Health Care"). ).

Pharmacological effects of rhubarb Chinese medicine

Rhubarb can increase intestinal peristalsis, inhibit the absorption of water in the intestine, and promote defecation; rhubarb has anti-infective effect, and has inhibitory effect on a variety of gram-positive and negative bacteria, among which Staphylococcus and Streptococcus are the most sensitive, followed by Diphtheria Bacillus , Typhoid and Paratyphoid Bacillus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Shigella, etc.; also have inhibitory effect on influenza virus; due to tannin, there is constipation after diarrhea; Liver, antihypertensive, lowering serum cholesterol and other effects.
